The Problem
The Solution
Consumption and wastefulness are promoted by fast fashion culture.
While avoiding fast fashion brands and completely buying from ethical and sustainable brands may be near impossible to do, making small steps to minimize the amount of clothing bought and utilizing what you have in your wardrobe is the small effort made towards reducing one’s fashion footprint.
An app that helps users manage their closets and create new outfits using the items already in their possession.
This app addresses the issue by altering the way we interact with our clothing as well as our fashion thinking. The app will serve as a source of inspiration for anyone looking to make the most of their existing wardrobe. Seeing other people's styles and similar items will help them become more conscious of the outfits they currently own in their wardrobe and reduce overbuying when they don't know what to wear.
User Research
Competitive Analysis
I conducted a competitive analysis of three existing applications that were similar in function and use to the app I was creating. I analyzed Cladwell, Lookscope, and Pureple to take a look at their features and design.
User Research
Survey
I conducted a survey to figure out who my target audience was and to understand thier relationship with their clothes and shopping. Below are some of the questions I asked my users in the survey.
User Research
User Interviews
In order to better understand the needs of my users, I chose participants from the survey I sent out and I conducted four user interviews which gave insight to their motivations and paint points.
Some of the Interview Questions were:
What influences your decision into making a purchase when you go shopping at mall or online?
How would you describe your style compared to your wardrobe?
Is there anything you would like change about your shopping habits from where you shop to how often?
3 Key Pain Points:
Several participants mentioned their frustrations with creating outfits from the clothes that they have.
They would rather their source of inspiration be in one space rather than multiple apps in order to keep everything organized.
Participants found it difficult saving money trying to keep up with all the up and coming trends that fast fashion produces. A few of them mentioned how their style is heavily influenced by trends rather then their personal style. making it difficult for them to keep up and create outfits. They wanted to try and figure out what their actual personal style is.

Reflections
This project gave me the opportunity to push myself by allowing me to conduct more in-depth user research using a survey and conducting interviews. As a result, I was able to empathize with and better understand my users, and the information I obtained helped me develop the app's prototype with ease. I believe that conducting usability testing with either my low-fidelity or high-fidelity prototypes would have allowed me to see what was working and what wasn't, as well as identify any issues with the app's design and functioning.
Future Use Cases
With more research and iterations, I hope to be able to expand the app's functionality and make it more user-friendly for my users. A visual search tool is one thing I'd like to see included. Users would be able to upload a photo or use an existing photo on the app to focus on a specific piece of clothing, which would then load and present a variety of styles and outfits.
